Rooted in wellbeing: Camira explores human-centred interior design at Clerkenwell Design Week 2026

May 1, 2026byHelen Blamires

During Clerkenwell Design Week 2026 we will present our Rooted concept; examining how interiors can centre around human experience, using materials, colour, light, and nature to create spaces that support wellbeing, balance and connection. Rooted gives a sense of sanctuary, comfort and belonging.

From 19–21 May 2026, visitors to our Clerkenwell showroom will encounter a fully transformed environment, featuring installations crafted from our signature natural fibres such as flax and wool, designed to evoke grounding, calm, and a sense of wellbeing.

Launching at the event, Monochrome Sett II, is a continuation of our iconic wool and flax category, exemplifying the Rooted ethos in natural materiality and colour. Guided by biophilic design principles, its natural textures and earthy, warm tones blur the boundaries between the indoors and outdoors, helping interiors feel connected to nature while supporting breathable, healthy environments. This marks the expansion of our wool-flax family of products which began with Main Line Flax over a decade ago.

Throughout the three-day event, we will host a programme of distinguished guest speakers who will address how interior design can enhance human experience. We will be joined by Dr Shelley James, lighting consultant and TEDx speaker, Anna Starmer, founder of Colour Studio, Luminary, and Vanessa Champion, founder and editor of The Journal of Biophilic Design.

The Future of Colour: From Ecology to Emotion
Tuesday 19th May, 3.00pm-3.30pm

Join colour consultant and founder of Luminary Colour, Anna Starmer, for an insightful talk exploring the theme of Colour Ecology. A forward-looking approach to colour that connects emotional intelligence with ecological responsibility.

Through her colour storytelling at Luminary and her work with Camira, Anna demonstrates how colour forecasting can inform real-world material innovation, helping designers create more meaningful and responsible outcomes. Anna will provide insights into her collaboration with Camira, through bridging colour futures, material innovation, and visual storytelling – thus revealing how better colour choices could lead to better human experiences.

Exploring the Material Language of Biophilic Design
Wednesday 20th May, 11.00am -11.30am
Founder of The Journal of Biophilic Design, Dr Vanessa Champion will explore how biophilic design is more than greenery, it is a guiding framework for material specification in human-centred interiors. This talk will introduce its origins, sensory principles, and relevance in today’s built environments, alongside sustainability and regenerative design.

It highlights natural fibres, tactility, and material provenance as tools to strengthen our connection to nature, as well as our emotional and physiological experiences. Attendees will gain a fresh perspective on specifying materials, leaving with four practical, biophilic principles to create healthier, more conscious spaces that enhance wellbeing and foster meaningful connections to nature.

Wednesday 20th May, 3.00pm - 3.30pm
Join Dr Shelley James, internationally recognised expert on light and wellbeing, TEDx speaker, and educator for a fast-paced, interactive session exploring how interior design shapes the way we think, feel, and behave in a space. Discover how your brain quickly decides what an organisation is really like, what you can (and can’t) do in a space, and how you remember your way around. Drawing on the latest research in multisensory perception, this session will reveal why context and subtle design choices matter more than you think.

“Clerkenwell Design Week provides an inspiring platform to share our latest thinking and sustainable textile innovations. To feel ‘rooted’ is to feel anchored, secure, and supported: emotionally, mentally, and physically. We wanted to create a space that reflects the growing desire for interiors that are truly human-centred. Through material, colour, and light, we are exploring how textiles can help people feel grounded, balanced, and at ease in the spaces they inhabit.”
