Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) Declaration
Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) are organic substances that persist in the environment, accumulate in living organisms and pose risks to human health and the wider environment. The Stockholm Convention Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee (POPRC) maintains and updates the list of substances that are eliminated, restricted or subject to limitations. Camira monitors this list alongside the requirements of Regulation (EU) 2019/1021 on Persistent Organic Pollutants, as amended, and the UK Persistent Organic Pollutants Regulations 2007.
Camira also reviews relevant delegated regulations and amendments, including the most recent updates to Annexes under Regulation (EU) 2019/1021.
At the date of issue, and based on information provided by its suppliers, Camira makes this Declaration that substances, processes and materials used or produced during the manufacture of fabrics at its UK facilities do not intentionally contain persistent organic pollutants listed in the Stockholm Convention’s list of persistent organic pollutants. Camira does not exceed the limits defined for unintentional trace contaminants, does not undertake laboratory scale research involving persistent organic pollutants and, to the best of its knowledge, does not use any process equipment containing persistent organic pollutants.
Camira has maintained its compliance status since at least 2012 and will continue to follow the progress of the POPRC and the associated updates to EU and UK legislation by adding newly listed substances and revising concentration limits.
Camira places on the market a limited range of fabrics that contain per and polyfluoroalkyl substances. Although the PFAS used are not currently subject to elimination, restriction or limitation under the Stockholm Convention or Regulation (EU) 2019/1021, Camira remains committed to working with its suppliers to develop environmentally conscious alternatives.
Refer to Camira’s Conformity Statement for information about which fabric ranges contain PFAS that are not listed in the Stockholm Convention’s list of persistent organic pollutants.
To ensure compliance with the requirements of Article 7 of Regulation (EU) 2019/1021 on persistent organic pollutants, it is recommended that those managing the end of life of fabrics purchased from Camira prior to 2012 adhere to published government guidance on safe methods of disposal.
Fabrics sold by Camira are intended for use as a component part, for example in upholstery projects. This Declaration therefore applies only to the condition of fabrics at the point of delivery to the purchaser. Camira makes no guarantee and assumes no liability for other materials or processes used in combination with or applied to its fabrics.
This Declaration will be reviewed periodically and maintained as documented information in the Our Policies section of the Camira website.
