We love making fabrics. It’s who we are and what we do.

Belief

We’re not a wholesaler or a textile jobber, buying fabrics from third party mills and simply adding our own brand name.

We make our own yarns and fabrics – from beginning to end - so we know exactly what we put in and what you get out. It’s the only way we can be sure of the quality, technical performance and environmental integrity. We think that’s important and we know you do too.

Making textiles is a craft. It’s the sum of many different specialist capabilities and the expertise of many different people. We have blenders, carders, spinners, winders, creelers, warpers, weavers, knotters, knitters, tuners, menders, scourers, dyers, finishers, sewers, and recyclers. All working together to use time-honed skills to make yarn and fabric. So Made by Camira is outright vertical manufacturing going from end to end in the textile industry, spanning six different sites, and giving unrivaled control of all manufacturing operations.

Homemade history

UK manufacturing is concentrated in the Huddersfield area of West Yorkshire, which powered the Industrial Revolution and became home to the finest woven cloths the world has ever seen.

Our largest manufacturing site is in Meltham, now occupying around 32,000m2 or 342,000 square feet. It’s on the former site of David Brown Tractors which made the engines for the original Aston Martin DB series of cars. It has expanded by more than a third since we first moved our manufacturing there from our head office location in the year 2000, becoming a zero to landfill site in 2013.

Our wool yarn spinning plant is in Birkby, we package dye yarns in Lockwood, we piece dye fabrics in Holmfirth, and we have a technical knitting factory in Nottingham. Our European manufacturing facility is located near Kaunas in Lithuania, where we also have a specialist upholstery facility for cutting to size and sewing fully finished component covers.

Times change, technology advances, and things just get better.

We invest in state-of-the-art machinery, and collaborate with the best to expand our horizons, we innovate, and provide new solutions.

Whether it’s woven or knitted, digitally printed or expertly sewn, we continually challenge ourselves to remain at the forefront of fabric design and manufacturing.
