Pinsent Masons

Located in the heart of Edinburgh, the brand-new Grade A building of renowned law firm Pinsent Masons LLP was delivered by Tsumani Axis, designed by Form Design Consultant, and fitted out by Overbury. Proudly bearing the title of  Scotland’s first WELL Certified Gold office, accredited by International WELL Building Institute (IWBI), this contemporary workspace features a range of sustainable fabrics by Camira, and is filled with natural materials, biophilic touches, and colourful decor.

Fabrics featured: RivetCaraSynergyOceanic.

"This is Scotland's first WELL Certified Gold office."

James Martin, Head of Architecture and Design at Tsunami Axis, explains what Pinsent Masons were hoping to achieve with their new space, "The team at Pinsent Masons were looking to provide a WELL accredited space for their employees and clients. There was a heavy focus on supply from within the UK to minimise the carbon footprint of the project, and a very domestic and biophilic aesthetic was required, without compromising on function."

To deliver this vision, Tsunami Axis worked closely with Pinsent Masons and Form Design Consultants to collectively curate a schedule of sustainable furniture, lighting, and acoustic products which were selected based on their eco credentials. From the FSC certified wood content to the recycled fabrics, every product was meticulously researched and chosen for their positive eco credentials.

"We looked to elevate all areas to their maximum potential."

Describing their approach to the project, James comments: "We looked to elevate all areas to their maximum potential through the furniture items we specified; considering their sustainable credentials, aesthetics, and function. A high level of IT integration was also required to ensure all members of staff and clients had fast connectivity. From a fabric perspective, we used lots of vibrant colours to highlight certain areas whilst complementing the overall biophilic aesthetic."

"There was a heavy focus and need for sustainable fabrics."

Explaining the specific considerations for the textiles featured within the space, James continues, "The fabrics used all needed to adhere to the WELL criteria and there was therefore a heavy focus on the sustainable fabrics which Camira offer. All fabrics specified were certified to SCS Indoor Advantage Gold due to their low VOC emissions, and included ranges like RivetCaraSynergy and Oceanic."

In a space filled with beautifully designed rooms, offices, and collaborative hubs, there are many areas to enjoy, and James highlights one in particular, "The breakout area on the client floor really highlights the WELL Gold accreditation in terms of the design, furniture, fabrics and finishes. It is a vibrant and social space which encourages employees to make the commute into the office and see their fellow colleagues."
