We love making transport fabrics. It’s who we are and what we do.

Belief

We’re not a wholesaler or a textile jobber, buying fabrics from third party mills and simply adding our own brand name.

We make our own yarns and fabrics – from beginning to end - so we know exactly what we put in and what you get out. It’s the only way we can be sure of the quality, technical performance and environmental integrity. We think that’s important and we know you do too.

Making textiles is a craft. It’s the sum of many different specialist capabilities and the expertise of many different people. We have blenders, carders, spinners, winders, creelers, warpers, weavers, knotters, knitters, tuners, menders, scourers, dyers, finishers, sewers, and recyclers. All working together to use time-honed skills to make yarn and fabric. So Made by Camira is outright vertical manufacturing going from end to end in the textile industry, spanning six different sites, and giving unrivalled control of all manufacturing operations.

Global makers

We design and manufacture around 1 million metres of fabrics for the transport sector every year, and around 7 million more metres for commercial contract segments. We operate 6 manufacturing sites, five in the UK and 1 in Lithuania, which cover more than 58,000 square metres of floor space or the equivalent of over 8 football pitches side by side.

Steeped in rich history

Our UK manufacturing is concentrated in the Huddersfield area of West Yorkshire, just a few miles away from the original Holdsworth factory in Halifax.

Our largest manufacturing site is in Meltham, now occupying around 32,000m2 or 342,000 square feet, home to over 100 dobby and jacquard looms, our digital printing operation, technical finishing for transport fabrics, warehousing and distribution. It’s on the former site of David Brown Tractors which made the engines for the original Aston Martin DB series of cars.

We have a wool yarn spinning plant in Birkby, we package dye yarns in Lockwood, we piece dye fabrics in Holmfirth, and we have a technical knitting factory in Nottingham. Our European manufacturing facility is located near Kaunas in Lithuania, where we also have a specialist upholstery facility for cutting to size and sewing fully finished component covers.

Our global HQ is in Mirfield, West Yorkshire, on the site of a former textile mill which dates from 1760, restored and modernised to be an inspiring place to work and visit.

Turning ideas in to reality

Our capabilities begin at the fabric design stage, with a talented team of textile designers, colourists and technical specialists, highly skilled in both weave and print, who create our own collections or translate custom concepts into textile reality.

We can design and weave a wide range of different fabric constructions using different loom types to create the most appropriate look, feel, finish and desired technical performance.

Our plush fabrics, sometimes known as velvet or moquette, are woven on face to face jacquard looms, with two rolls of fabric woven at the same time, and then cut by a blade to leave the pile standing upright in a completely level surface finish.

Wire woven fabrics, created on wire looms, are made from both cut and loop pile, or a combination of the two, to create added surface textural interest and visual effects. Our flat oven fabrics are woven on dobby or jacquard looms by interlacing warp and weft yarns to create a flat fabric surface.

Our printed fabrics are digitally printed onto a wool moquette base fabric, allowing unrestricted use of pattern and lower minimum order quantities.
