Project in Focus: Dynamic Ceramic by Adrianus Kundert
Project: Dynamic Ceramic
Designer: Adrianus Kundert
Looking closer at the inspiration behind Co-Create, our Project in Focus for the trend is Dynamic Ceramic by Dutch designer Adrianus Kundert. He combines his conceptual skills with his feeling for form and colour.
Kundert believes that objects that are evolving, positively increasing the durability and its connection with the user. In this particular material investigation, he set out to create ceramic products that were able to react to their own surroundings, resulting in a series of vases that change in response to UV light, revealing new patterns, structures and colours.
His passion for exploring new techniques is a wonderful example of a creative journey central to Co-Create 2017/18.
We asked Kundert to share more about his experimental approach to design:
1. Describe your design style/approach in 3 words
Conceptual, handmade, storytelling.
2. What inspired the colour palette process used in Dynamic Ceramic?
I used to be a florist and am inspired by natural colour combinations, such as orange and pink. This was my starting point and I took a spontaneous and intuitive approach to create coatings on my ceramics that create a unique result. The object is designed by using it and this is how I see the future of products.
3. We have featured this project in a trend that focuses on the creative journey. How do you see your work fitting into this trend?
My work suits this theme for sure. It is hard to put a name to my style of working but I can definitely relate to the importance of the creative journey. My process explores the idea that a product is only truly made after it is produced and used.
4. What do you think about the trend Co-Create?
This trend for me reflects the future for products, where a merge of different disciplines creates new ideas. We are in an industrialised market but we need individuality too. I believe mass production combining with personalisation is essential.
5. What are you working on at the moment?
I am currently working on a chair that is entirely woven. It has been a year in the making will be launched in Milan in 2018.
