REACH Declaration

REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of Chemicals) is the system for controlling chemicals in the UK and EU. It originally became law in the UK on 1st June 2007, through the implementation of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 of the European Parliament. Subsequent to the UK’s withdrawal from the EU, the EU REACH Regulation has been brought into UK law under the European Union (Withdrawal) Act 2018. The new UK regime is known as UK REACH.

The aim of the UK and EU REACH regulations is to improve the protection of human health and the environment from the risks that can be posed by chemicals, while enhancing the competitiveness of the chemicals industry. It also promotes alternative methods for the hazard assessment of substances in order to reduce the number of tests on animals.

In accordance with UK and EU REACH regulations, textile products manufactured by Camira are defined as “articles” without any intentional release of substances, and as such, do not require registration.

To address its obligations as an importer and downstream user of chemicals, and based on information provided by its suppliers, Camira monitors the ECHA information on chemicals and implements controls where and insofar as it is required to by law. As such, Camira is committed to the following:

• Retaining accurate chemical data and supplier compliance statements.

• Periodic review of chemical usage and substitution where required.

• Where and insofar as required by law, obtain authorisation for the provision or use of chemicals.

• Where and insofar as required by law, notify relevant authorities of chemicals being imported in quantities exceeding stated thresholds.

• Ensure that fabrics do not contain any substances of very high concern (SVHC) above a concentration of 0.1% (w/w).

• Communicate effectively with suppliers and downstream users on the safe use of chemicals.

This declaration will be reviewed periodically and maintained as documented information in the ‘Our Policies’ section of the Camira corporate website.
