Introducing ALTO\TONE by Artworks
Recently launched by Artworks, the pioneering provider of branding, graphics and acoustic solutions for the workplace environment, the Alto Tone is an exciting new product from the Bristol-based company.
Created to provide effective sound management in commercial interiors, without compromising on aesthetic impact, the Alto Tone is exclusively available in Camira's Sonus range - an acoustically transparent fabric with a fibre felted finish and appealing mélange effect. We caught up with the Artworks team to learn all about this innovative new product, from the inspiration behind it to the spaces it can be used in.
Could you tell us a little about the inspiration behind the design of the Alto Tone?
We were inspired to find new innovative solutions for the decorative acoustic sector. Our existing Alto polyester range has been very popular in the industry, but we realised the need to keep improving our product by increasing the colour palette to stay relevant in an ever growing market. The collaboration with Camira and the Sonus range was exactly what we needed, with a great range of colour finishes that are in keeping with the interior sector, as well as giving us the ability to create some really beautiful bespoke design from engraving into the face to reveal the base layer.
What are the unique benefits of the product?
At its core this is an acoustic product, so its main benefit will always be the reduction of reverberation in its environment, but Alto Tone delivers so much more to the world of design and material innovation. With over 250 different colour combinations available, and the ability to engrave, cut, fold & print the possibilities really are open to your imagination. With our wealth of design and production knowledge our team can help you create something truly special and bespoke to your business, from a simple repeat design to a one-off piece that you can be proud of.

Which interiors has the product been designed for use in?
Alto Tone has been designed for the interior fit out sector - with its incredible versatility, it can be used for a range of applications from wall treatments to hanging ceiling acoustic solutions. Alto Tone is available in 13mm or 25mm thickness and, with a full sheet size of 2800mm x 1220mm, it gives you the ability to cover most ceiling heights in a single panel.
Does the Alto Tone have any sustainable credentials?
Alto Tone is manufactured from 100% polyester through an eco-friendly needle punching process. No chemicals are used during the manufacturing process therefore no waste by-products are generated, while the product is also fully recyclable at the end of its life. The Sonus fabric featured on Alto Tone also acheives SCS Indoor Advantage Gold - a certificate based on testing for Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) (organic chemicals which evaporate or vaporise readily under normal atmospheric conditions and are harmful to human health, such as Formaldehyde and Aldehydes). In meeting these rigorous indoor air quality requirements, specifying Sonus within a scheme can contribute to major environmental building standards, such as: LEED v4, Well Building Standard, BREEAM UK and BREEAM International and more.

Why did you choose the Sonus range by Camira for use with the Alto Tone?
We have worked with Camira for many years now, using their distinguished fabric range in conjunction with our acoustic fabric walling system in office spaces across the UK. This has allowed us to understand the Sonus range and its noteworthy colour palette and performance capabilities firsthand, not to mention its acoustic tendencies.
