Moooi’s Shift Lounge Chair
Revolutionising the traditional foldable chair is the latest innovation from Moooi, the Shift Lounge Chair. Working with Technical Knitting, the chair’s designer Jonas Forsman, has created a chair which is both practical but also extremely chic and comfortable.
When folded, the chair is flat so it can be stored and easily moved, however once unfolded and in position, it has a three-dimensional shape thanks to the rounded knitted backrest coordinating with the padded seat.
Completely unique
Technical Knitting worked closely with Moooi and Jonas Forsman to create the complex backrest to suit the aesthetic of the chair’s design. The original brief was to create a folding chair with a homely look rather than anything too corporate and to assist the user better than a standard plastic chair.
The carefully engineered fabric for the backrest is designed to support in the lumbar area when the chair is erect, with the ability to collapse flat and not to be too baggy when folded. Technical Knitting achieved this using a combination of different structures and tensions throughout the fabric.
With a completely unique design, no two chairs will be the same due to the mélange effect on the back. The Shift Lounge Chair will be available in three colours: Blue Grey, Bright Red and Warm Ochre.
