Centrica Storage Limited

Centrica Storage Limited safely produces and processes gas from the Rough gas field in the southern North Sea on behalf of Centrica plc. Their headquarters are on the Bridgehead Business Park in Hessle, East Yorkshire. The company has over 250 employees and recently underwent a complete office refurbishment programme to compliment a new-build fit-out. Designed by Box Architects in Leeds, the project included the introduction of sliding folding walls, glazed central meeting rooms, generous break out spaces and acoustically treated private conversation booths.

Bringing the outside in

With a brief that specified a desire to bring elements of nature into the building, Box Architects realised this vision through every aspect of its design, from the layout of the rooms to the colour palette. Utilising a central spine floor plan, the meeting rooms and break- out spaces run down the centre of the building over two floors. This enables employees to be located around the internal perimeter, benefitting from the fantastic natural light and views afforded by the building’s location.

Jane Walsh, Interior Designer at Box Architects explains how she also sought to translate the company’s purpose through the building’s design: "The interior of this modern facility echoes a Voronoi theme, reflecting how natural gas is stored within rock structures. This Voronoi theme carries through all elements of the project including the reception, office areas, meeting rooms and breakout spaces."

To complement these two central themes, Camira’s Patina fabric was chosen for use on the office’s seating and desk screens. Patina’s colour palette takes its hues from nature, and the green and orange tones used throughout the building’s seating and screens are in perfect harmony with the woodland surroundings CSL sought to embrace.
