Jens Risom Design by Camira

The answer is Risom

Born in Copenhagen in 1916, Jens Risom went on to become a pioneer of mid-century modern – firmly ensconced in the design hall of fame thanks to his creation of the sleek, iconic furniture that was equally at home in the Oval Office as it was in his summer retreat in Block Island, USA.

Creating his own distinct brand, Jens pioneered a unique blend of Danish minimalism with American style that is still perennially popular – with a number of his designs remaining in continuous production since their inception, as well as being permanently housed in prestigious institutions in the US, such as the Museum of Modern Art, the Brooklyn Museum and the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum.

Reimagined by Camira

Working closely with the Risom family and FORM Portfolios, Camira has recreated two fabrics designed and manufactured by Jens Risom. With sustainability laying at the core of our development process, we have reinterpreted Jens’ fabrics with the environment, our surroundings and longevity in mind – whilst always remaining true to the colours, textures and tones of the original Zap and Armadillo.

Reducing the nylon composition of the 1950’s designs - and incorporating flax yarn for Armadillo - has delivered fabrics that are highly durable, inherently flame retardant and maintain our commitment to using environmentally-friendly bast fibers.

Zap stays true to the feisty Risom original – with bold refinement. A wool blend fabric using two beautifully blended yarns and creating a mesmerising shot effect, Zap has a palette of 30 colorways.

Armadillo is made from a wool-rich flax yarn which is color woven using three yarns. With a palette of 12 selective colors, it embraces bold pops of color that bring the calm, muted tones to life.
