Camira Print: IFS Cloud Cable Car, London

Ten years after opening, the London Cable Car continues to be a success with Londoners and visitors to the capital alike, and, as it celebrates a decade of transporting commuters across the River Thames, it has received a brand-new look and feel, with a bespoke fabric by Camira Print. Operated by Transport for London and newly sponsored by technology company IFS, the cars now feature a distinctive IFS-branded livery and upholstery, bringing a pop of purple to the city's skyline.

"Over the last ten years, we have seen the London Cable Car attract tens of millions of visitors." Josh Crompton, Head of the London Cable Car, TfL

Providing the highest views directly above the River Thames at 90 metres, there have been tens of millions of journeys made on the London Cable Car since opening in 2012. Initially popular for trips between London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games events at The O2 and ExCeL London, it is now a top London attraction with increasing leisure and sightseeing trips, as well as being used for travel between the north and south of the River Thames. The proximity of the cable car to a multitude of hotels, restaurants and services on both sides of the river opens the city up for people to explore both sides of the river.

"With Camira Print, we were able to achieve something visually unique in a short period of time." Paul Marchant, Product Design Manager, TfL

With a longstanding relationship existing between Camira and TfL, this project marked the perfect opportunity to create a custom fabric for the transport organisation using our revolutionary digital print capability - Camira Print. Working closely with Paul Marchant, Product Design Manager at TfL, we developed a fabric featuring a gradated cloud pattern which perfectly complemented the cars' livery and IFS logo. A design that cannot be woven, this striking print illustrates the complex shading possible with Camira Print, and the immersive, branded interiors it can create when installed.

Commenting on the project, Paul said, "We chose to use Camira Print for the IFL Cable Cars primarily because of the quick turnaround in production, and the opportunity to experiment with a new textile technology. Enabling us to create something visually unique in a comparatively short period of time, we'll certainly use Camira Print for projects in the future, such as events and sponsorships."
