Zero landfill is just the beginning
We’ve implemented robust measures to protect the environment and increase our resource efficiency. We’ve eradicated waste from our main UK manufacturing facility, operating at 0% to landfill since 2013. Our journey to this landmark involved a major continuous improvement project to segregate waste streams and work closely with suppliers to re-use materials and packaging. Our polyester selvedge waste is returned to the yarn supplier to be re-extruded back into new yarns as part of closed-loop cycle, in fact our Gravity, X2, L2, Halcyon and Dimension fabric ranges contain up to 25% closed-loop content. Not only are we working with suppliers, we also reclaim off-cut fabrics as part of a take-back scheme with customers for reintroduction into new products.
As well as adopting the circular economy model, we’ve also vastly improved our energy consumption. Efficiency per metre of fabric at our Meltham site has reduced by 50% since 2009, achieved through implementing more efficient production processes and utilising intelligent lighting and voltage optimisation technology, increased staff awareness and a culture of continuous improvement.
