The University of Huddersfield – landmark Oastler Building
The newest addition to the University of Huddersfield’s landscape is the iconic Oastler Building. A flagship building for the University, the Oastler Building opened in April 2017 and is home to the Law School and the School of Music, Humanities and Media.
The £27.5m building has an expansive interior scheme, overseen by architecture firm AHR, housing four new lecture theatres (each with 300 seats), study rooms, classrooms, seminars, with plenty of social space and breakout areas, to cater for the growth of Law courses at the University, as well as History, English Linguistics and English Language.
As well as providing more space for approximately 2,200 students, the building offers a new events space for the University. Within the lecture theatres bespoke modular furniture, by Auditoria Seating, can be fully retractable for different needs.
Gresham Office Furniture seating is used throughout the rest of the building, upholstered in our Synergy fabric. The University has been using our wool ranges over several years for high use areas and this was the main driver for specifying Camira fabric for the Oastler Building, alongside the longevity and performance of our fabrics. Using a mix of Synergy colours, predominantly grey to reflect the corporate style of the building and the subjects taught in the building, the vibrant use of blue and green also inject colour into the space.
Tim Hosker, Assistant Director Estates and Facilities (Property Services) at the University of Huddersfield, commented: “The finish of the Synergy fabric works so well across all types of furniture, we knew it would suit the new space.
“We are always keen to work with local businesses and having previously worked with Camira – using a range of fabrics which have been very successful throughout the University – we knew they could react quickly and fulfil the requirements for Oastler Building.”
