Anthony is our highly versatile Commercial Director, who’s a bit of a trouble shooter with a calculator always by his side. His long experience within the business puts this firmly into context and gives him the wherewithal to deliver the goods!
Anthony’s time within Camira Group started over 21 years ago, initially with Huddersfield textile business Glenside Fabrics which was acquired back in 1998. Over that period he’s tackled a number of varied and interesting roles, changing hats more times than a government minister, but enabling him to really get to grips with what makes our company tick and what sets us apart from our competitors. So, from starting out as Financial Controller, he moved into Operations with a broad ranging portfolio extending from supply chain, to managing stock, service, sampling and logistics, even setting up and managing our specialist cutting and sewing facility in Lithuania. Next up was Director of Quality where Anthony implemented world class benchmarking, standards and continuous improvement models, bringing him full circle to applying all his knowledge and expertise to a key role as Director of Finance for the wider Camira Group. Now, his Board Level position as Commercial Director blends strategic thinking with practical application to ensure we cement our positon as the natural choice for fabric solutions worldwide.
After leaving school, Anthony toyed with several ideas including turning his Saturday supermarket job into a full time managerial career or even becoming a policeman! However, he was advised not to enter the Police Academy and instead to gain some further qualifications, so he followed a business diploma, before finding himself attending an interview for Leeds based Auditors, Sagars. He was offered a way forward as an Accountant for the next 5 happy years and so started his now long association with his trusty Texas Instruments TI-508 Calculator!
A squeeze on earnings following the 1991/92 recession led Anthony to escape from Leeds and into what he thought would be the “Dark Satanic Mills of Huddersfield”. How wrong he was. “Upon entering textiles, I've never looked back,” says Anthony. “Self-motivation, hard work and determination play an important part, but it’s my philosophy that if I have to go to work for 9 hours a day, I have to enjoy it and the challenges and inspiration it brings, otherwise I'll leave. I'm still here because Camira has never stood still and I'm excited by the Strategic Future for our great company.”
Anthony is married to Deborah and they have two young boys, Alfie and Ted.
