As Operations Director Alan is driven to make things happen, as he strives to make Camira a model company and centre of manufacturing excellence. His remit takes in our entire manufacturing capabilities in both the UK and in Lithuania, as well as supply chain and procurement, warehousing and distribution. He also wears our Health and Safety hat.
After gaining a masters degree in mechanical and manufacturing engineering from Newcastle University, Alan began his career at the global electronics company Philips initially as a process engineer, then departmental manager. He left Philips to join Owens Corning, a global glass fibre business, as Operations Leader, then in 2004 moved to Interface Fabrics as manufacturing manager for the company's UK operations. He became the youngest member of the Board when he was promoted to Manufacturing Director in 2005 and has since been instrumental in complex, large-scale manufacturing start-up, integration and consolidation projects.
Alan integrated the Holdsworth transportation business into our Huddersfield and Lithuania facilities, he set up our polypropylene yarn manufacturing operation in Lithuania, and has consolidated flat-woven manufacturing and finishing, and associated added value services at both sites. He also led the joint venture project that set up yarn dyers Park Valley Dyers.
When he's not at work, he works out at the gym, and enjoys mountain biking and swimming. He's married to Rachel and has a son.
